ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Five members of one family in St. Louis County have tested positive for COVID-19, according to multiple reports.

Ryan Weinhaus, 32, says his mother, was the first to show signs of the coronavirus and was rushed to the emergency room in early March. Her husband is also in a hospital room just two doors down the hall at Missouri Baptist Hospital.

Ryan Weinhaus said he wants people to tell people they should abide by the stay-at-home orders and not "be selfish" during this pandemic.

"This is super-serious. While I’m cautiously optimistic that we’re going to be OK, we have to use our best judgment," Ryan Weinhaus told Fox 2 News. "Staying inside, don’t be selfish, don’t just think about yourself, think about the people you could be infecting, thinking that you’re invincible."

Over the weekend, Ryan Weinhaus, his wife Brittanie, brother Jason all tested positive for COVID-19 as well. Ryan Weinhaus posted a message recently on Facebook to update friends and family of their situation and thanked people for, "the love that everyone has shown for our family is something we will never forget. It melts our hearts and means the world to us."

In an interview with the New York Post, he added, “I did not expect myself to test positive or to have some of these symptoms, but it can happen to anybody,” Ryan said. “It’s not just elderly individuals.”

Ryan Weinhaus' mother, Jane Weinhaus, 63, came off the ventilator in the ICU for the first time on Monday and his father is also doing better after being rushed to the ER last week because "he couldn’t breathe."

Jane Weinhaus is a teacher at Temple Israel's Deutsch Early Childhood Center, where she is among at least four others related to the school who have tested positive, according to statements from the congregation

Ryan, Brittanie, 31, and Jason Weinhaus, 37, self quarantined in their homes after testing positive and "all seem to be overcoming them, getting healthier, and on the road to recovery," Ryan Weinhaus explained.
